Norma and I are honored and humbled at the way
God has opened up this opportunity to serve once again. We will be headed to
Nicaragua beginning June 3 and will be there through October 23. ,
We're so excited for the new challenges that
our Church Mission Team is tackling right now. We have been revising roles and
have some exciting goals and strategies we're fleshing out..slowly but surely.
We're being very intentional to teach and encourage integral faith-based
development with our Nicaraguan partners.
I will be teaching History of Missions (from a
biblical worldview) in the New Jerusalem Bible Institute every Saturday. We
pray the number of those pastors and church leaders enrolling in the course
will be a good number because they will be the ones who in turn teach their own
churches integral faith principles. (It’s always a better idea for Nicaraguans
to teach Nicaraguans at the grass roots level). Our co-partner Kerrie Kuntz
will be joining us in Managua some time in June for a one-year commitment with
PICI. Some members of our church put
together $300 for Maria's seamstresses to purchase a sewing machine locally and
start a cooperative micro-business in the community. It'll be exciting to see
how that gets up and going. Heather Martinez of our Church at Ginger Creek will
join us and spend a week with Maria and the new business. Dates for the sewing workshop are somewhere
between June 29-July 6. Kerrie Norma and I will join that workshop. Our
tentative plan/hope as a co-partnering team is to help the Nicaraguan ladies
knock out volumes of product to sell--possibly school uniforms.
We're also excited about having Megan and Jana
Mckinley also of Ginger Creek in Aurora being there in July to work with Maria
in Bible studies and Church visitation.
We are so thankful that God provided us with a
missionary couple's house to rent for July-October. Also we will be traveling some time in June to
Costa Rica to talk with key leaders who have organized churches there to use
S.E.A.N. Theological Education by Extension. There's a small leadership group
in Managua that appears to be struggling with how to use the TEE in Nicaraguan
churches.
We will also be working with Jorge and Monica
in the mountain village of Pochocuape. We will be checking out the courses
being offered by the Nehemiah Center on how to successfully set up and run a
self-sustainable micro-business. Another resource from the Nehemiah Center that
we'll research for our Nicaragua ministry partners will be Healthy Church
Growth and Christian Schools as a business.
We could go on and on. Plans are huge, but we
yield daily to see everything through God's eyes, not our own. We human beings
are so prone to run ahead of God. We have learned a lot this year or two of
asking God, "Where are you working…let us go there" and then standing
back and seeing how he shows up to open the doors and lighten the path.
Thanks to all of you for your prayer and
monetary support. Money is always needed and appreciated. But your
heart-investment and prayers for God's Kingdom work is crucial. That is
foundational for Norma and me to consistently attempt to know when, where and
how to follow in His footsteps.
