On Thursday, September 1, we headed for Oklahoma after hearing that Norma’s mother was very ill, and perhaps in her last stages of life. By the time we got into Tulsa, we found her in very poor condition. She was in much pain and suffering. That continued for two days, as Norma and her sister took wonderful care of her. They comforted her by talking to her and holding her hand, and making her as comfortable as possible. On Sunday, she suffered through the day until around two o’clock, and by that time all the family including our son David had arrived, and we were all together as a family. It was also at about that time, she began to have a peaceful look on her face, and seemed to relax. At about three o’clock, we had a wonderful time of worship, prayer, and the family sang the old hymns together that she loved so well. At about 5:50, the hospice lady joined us, and the whole family gathered around her bedside. Norma’s father held her hand, and prayed as we all did together that God would let her peacefully go home. At 6:10, a joyful, peaceful expression covered her face, and we began to sing Amazing Grace. At about the time we ended the song, we all noted her last breath being drawn, and she fell into the hands of our Savior. My father-in law as he held her hand and wrist, stated that he felt the moment the pulse ended, and knew she was in the arms of the Savior.
The following are words from Norma.
My Mom left us late yesterday. Sunday at 6:10pm while we circled around her bed, singing her favorite hymns, holding her hands and praying for God to bring her Home to rest.
Thanks so much for the prayer support. We so depend on God's grace and the prayer support of our friends at Ginger. I can't imagine going through this loss without God and brothers and sisters in Christ to help get us through the grief. Mom was exhausted from the pain she had suffered for many months, but that last hour yesterday was a celebration of a full life of service to the Lord and her family.
Please continue to pray for peace and comfort, especially for my 86-year-old dad (they will have been married 67 years in December) and for my sister, our spouses, grandkids, the great grandkids and me. And for Mom's remaining 5 siblings. This is a very close family. The emptiness and sorrow seems overwhelming looking forward, but we're reminding each other constantly that God's grace will be sufficient for the day..that's a promise we claim.
Again, I say thank you all so very much for your prayers.
