Bob was born near Byng, Oklahoma and was proud of his family and their Christian heritage. The church was a central part of their lives. Each of his 5 siblings attended the same Byng School where their mother played basketball and graduated in the 1920’s. Bob played 3rd base on the High School State Champion baseball teams in 1957 and 1958 and was selected as an All-State representative. He graduated with degrees in Sociology and Geography from East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma.
Bob served as a Lieutenant in the US Navy and was sent for duty in 1965 to the Rough & Ready Island Naval Communication Center. He served a tour of duty onboard the USS Annapolis as a Communications Officer during the conflict in Vietnam. He worked for San Joaquin County for 31 years and retired as the County Public Conservator.
Bob loved playing ball and continued playing softball after moving to Stockton with several church teams where he formed many long lasting friendships. He was known by all who saw him as an amazing player but was extraordinarily humble and always shunned the limelight. He enjoyed watching his three children grow up in the church family and attending their sports games. He was extremely proud of the adults they have become. As a father, his life was a tremendous example. Bob was a wonderful PaPa to his three beautiful granddaughters who will miss him very much.
From his childhood to his adulthood and into retirement, Bob was always faithful to his family and his church. As part of the Family of God, he has completed his journey.
I’m so glad I’m a part of the family of God
I’ve been washed in the fountain, cleansed by his blood
Joint heirs with Jesus as we travel this sod
For I’m part of the family, the family of God
