While looking through humor on line the other day, I accidentally ran across six words, that someone came up with to describe a project. This process probably goes through many minds when they are trying to accomplish any sort of task
Enthusiasm
Disillusionment
Panic
Search for the guilty
Punishment of the innocent
Praise and honor for the non-participants
“How true, that is.“ I thought. Just look at all the projects I have begun that have turned out just like this. And then immediately another thought came to my mind. That’s me, that’s how I treat my valentine.
Here is how it works. I think of something, for example, a great project that “I” wish to accomplish. “I” jump into it head first, with all sorts of vim and vigor, and think WOW, what a great project this is. Someone is going to be well pleased with this jewel.
Then quickly “I” become disillusioned, and begin to put myself down. Now, “I” am thinking, “boy, this really stinks.“
It is about that time that “I” am ready to hit the panic button, because by now, “I” have promised someone that this master piece will be completed, and in their hands in two days.
“I” begin a desperate search for a partner in crime because someone has to be to blame. Someone has to take responsibility and bear the guilt of this monstrosity. (it never occurs that this would be me.)
And guess who walks through the door. That’s right. My valentine; my dear wife of 42 years. She has to be the punching bag, so that “I” can take the praise and honor.
Now I am sure these six words may have not been exactly the same that the originator had in mind when he penned them, but this too often has been my reality. And then,“I” have to humble myself down and say, “Honey, I am sorry.” “ Please forgive me. “ I love you,” “I will try not to do that anymore. “
So to you men, out there who are peeking in on this little majestic pièce de résistance, especially if you find yourself in the same boat I ride in, go out and get that box of chocolates, or that bouquet of Roses, and have it ready and on time for your valentine. Dock Caton 02/09/11
